Can you use solar power to run all the appliances found in your home? If the answer is yes, is this power sustainable? Is it cost-effective? Is it worth the investment? Most importantly, is it for you? Many homeowners are now turning to solar power for the home as a means for saving big on utility costs. This is not the first time this happened, however. Back in the 1980s, during the energy crisis, homeowners collected solar energy for the home. The government supported this venture by giving those who generate their own power themselves tax credits. The good news is that this strategy worked so well fuel prices eventually stabilized. The bad is that prices became so stable fuel became dirt-cheap. Eventually, then president Ronald Reagan decided to scrap the tax credit for collectors of solar power.
So is solar power for the home right for you? My answer is this: it depends where you live. If you live somewhere hot and sunny, then by all means build all the solar power panels you need. If, on the other hand, you live in the wettest regions of the earth, then you should forget about using solar power for the home. There’s just no way you can get enough sunlight to power the appliances you normally use every day.
